Symptoms Requiring Emergency Room Evaluation

Certain symptoms should not wait for a clinic appointment. Go to the nearest ER — or call 911 — if you experience any of the following.

Chest pain or pressure
Especially if radiating to the arm, jaw, or back, or accompanied by sweating, nausea, or shortness of breath.

Sudden shortness of breath
Especially if severe, unexplained, or accompanied by leg swelling or chest pain.

Signs of stroke
Face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, sudden severe headache, or vision changes.

Severe abdominal pain
Sudden, intense pain — especially with vomiting, fever, or blood in stool.

Uncontrolled bleeding
Bleeding that does not stop with firm pressure, or bleeding while on blood thinners.

Severely high or low blood sugar
Confusion, unresponsiveness, or blood sugar readings well outside your usual range.

Severe allergic reaction
Facial or throat swelling, difficulty breathing, widespread hives, or collapse.
!
Loss of consciousness
Any fainting or unresponsiveness, especially with head injury or seizure.
